Current & Past Bios

Huong Nguyen, Pharm D.

My academic past saturates with years of undergraduate studies at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where I received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, and pharmacy didactics from the University of the Pacific Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy (UOP). Memories of UOP are nothing short of abundance.  Truthfully, the epiphany in wanting to complete a residency came in the midst of my intensive care rotation at NorthBay. Every detail of my experience, from utilizing intricate pharmacokinetic calculations to aid in dosing vancomycin, to conversing with Dan Ford, Pharm D. PGY2 Intensive Care trained pharmacist, to engaging in interpersonal interactions with patients by providing coumadin education, led me to believe I’ve fallen in love with wanting to become a clinical pharmacist.

Currently life as a pharmacy resident contributes to a good majority of who I am. But I’d like to share that my family also makes up a good portion as well. Despite my busy schedule I hope I’m able to be there for each of them. I’m grateful for them for keeping me grounded, my life young, and reminding me the importance of good role modeling.

Outside of pharmacy, art in all its different forms have been and still is a part of who I am as well. It weaves in and out of my life at times as I try my best to make time for it. I’m a self-taught dancer and choreographer and my works have been more associated with a Vietnamese youth organization I was immensely involved with for over 10 years. I like to paint. I’ve been painting intermittently for a few years usually during the winter seasons (when breaks from school are a lot longer). I also enjoy writing and I’ve written a few poetry pieces. With unwavering nerves, I performed one of my pieces at UOP during a Rho Chi talent show; the experience was unique and left me wanting to do it again someday.

I’m very grateful for this wonderful opportunity to be one of NorthBay’s residents. At NorthBay, professionalism is far from scarce, compassionate and skillful pharmacists and pharmacy personnel are plentiful, and the amount of information and experience to learn are limitless.  I’m excited and look forward to a year of developing clinical skills, teaching and precepting skills, and mastering the details of complete patient care. I hope that exposure to such goal-specific practice will help develop my personal style as a future clinical pharmacist.

Lastly, I’d like to leave you with this: Learn, live, love, laugh, words that never fail to bring a smile to my face and I hope it does the same for you.

Reena Patel, Pharm.D

I graduated from the University of the Pacific Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2011 through the 3+3 Pre-Pharmacy/Pharmacy Advantage Program.  After living five fantastic years in Stockton, I ventured to Southern California for rotations where I spent my many hours at facilities in the Memorial Health Care System, Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center and Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.  I developed an interest for inpatient practice when I interned at Doctor’s Hospital of Manteca and gained respect for residency programs during rotations.  When NorthBay came into my life, I accepted the opportunity to complete my residency with them and moved back to my hometown of Dixon.  I want to utilize this year as more than an academic experience; it will be a time for personal growth and professional development.  I believe that NorthBay will allow me to generate my own unique style of practice through a wide range of clinical opportunities.  What better people to do that with than a pharmacy staff that feels like my second family?  My career interests revolve primarily around cardiology but also extend out to women’s health and antibiotic stewardship.  Other than being an advocate for my profession, I enjoy spending time with my family and my close friends, dancing and choreographing performance routines and eating my way around the world.

Lara Haddad, Pharm.D

Lara HaddadI graduated from the University of the Pacific in May 2010. Completing a residency at NorthBay has allowed me to apply my pharmacy education in meaningful ways and has opened doors to opportunities I would never have had outside this program. It has been the best decision I could make to speed track my career, hone my clinical skills, and increase the confidence I have as a new pharmacist. NorthBay offers a hospital practice residency with a variety of learning experiences which align with my career goals and interests, such as clinical practice, academia and home infusion. What most attracted me to NorthBay were the progressive pharmacy department and supportive leadership. Our pharmacy model is one of the most well-developed work strategies I have seen. We are out on the floors and working hand-in-hand with the healthcare team to enhance patient care. All of our pharmacists are great role models and have made the spirit of learning and self-improvement contagious. With the support of my mentors, I am challenged everyday to be a better clinician and mark this year with tremendous personal growth.
